Krav Maga Classes Boston

Krav Maga Classes Boston Krav Maga is a system of self-defense/fighting/close-combat that was developed by the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). It is perhaps the most scientific system of fighting to ever be developed, as it is based on the experiences of combat troops who rely on it, on a day-to-day basis, for their physical safety. With the IDF enlisting somewhere around 60 000 new recruits each year this “sample size” makes it one of the most, if not the most” tested systems of hand-to-hand combat systems in the world. When something has been found not to work, that technique is no longer taught and a better one developed. This makes Krav Maga a constantly evolving and updated system of self-defense.

The system/approach has a single/simple goal: to get an untrained and possibly unfit new recruit combat ready in the shortest possible time. The system does this in several ways. Firstly, Krav Maga is based on what you will do when attacked/threatened rather than what you might want to do and/or think you should do e.g., if somebody chokes or strangles you, you will automatically bring your hands up to try and pull the offending hands/arm away. This means you won’t be attacking the groin or the eyes etc., you will be trying to clear the hands/arm so that you can breathe. This is how you will respond naturally/instinctively. Krav Maga works with these instinctive responses that we perform naturally rather than working against them.

Secondly, the system is based on several common movements, reusing them to deal with different attacks and threats, grouping techniques/solutions into “families”. Many people believe that Krav Maga is simply a mish-mosh of the best techniques from other martial arts and fighting systems etc. This is not the case. Krav Maga techniques have been developed around a few core body movements, with the variations usually being performed with the hands e.g., with a gun-threat to the head a hand grabs the barrel, when it’s a knife threat from the same position the wrist is grabbed, however the same body movement is used for both. This means that a “variation” is learnt and practiced rather than two completely different solutions. This allows Krav Maga practitioners to have to spend less time learning and more time practicing. It also means that when one technique is practiced the other is also being practiced. This means that practitioners get to the necessary 10 000 repetitions needed to perfect something much quicker.
